A 32-year-old visually impaired graduate of History, has defied the odds to become a secondary school teacher in Borno state.
32-year-old
Mohammed Mustapha, who graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A) in
History, was recently employed by Borno state governor, Kashim Shettima.
The
second class lower degree graduate, finished from the Gombe State
University, and had reportedly reached out to the governor via the BBC
Hausa service, on January 31, 2017, seeking for employment.
He had reportedly been invited to
the government house in Maiduguri, where Governor Shettima gave an
executive approval granting him employment by the Borno state Ministry
for Higher Education.
Governor Shettima said:
‘‘Honestly, we are really
touched by your story. You said you are a graduate of History at the
Gombe State University. Honestly, I really respect you for your effort
and I can assure you that we will give you all the support you deserve.
You really deserve our support; personally I want you to teach in a
senior secondary school or even in the school for the blind. After we
employ you, we will also give you scholarship where you can go and
further your education.’’
Thanking
the governor, Mustapha said even though he loves teaching and imparting
knowledge to the younger ones, he would also love to further his
education, with the hopes of becoming Nigeria's first blind professor.
‘‘I am a graduate of History from the Gombe State University and I am aspiring to become the first blind professor in Nigeria.’
I
live in Shehuri North area of Maiduguri; I want to get married and have
children to call my own, may be this year. But you know I have to
settle with my job and save some money.’’
Congrats to him!
